About Us
Ceramiche di Grottaglie showcases the art of Grottaglie’s potters through its online shop, with the aim of bringing this ancient tradition into homes around the world. Two young entrepreneurs, who are passionate about their local area and committed to promoting the art of ceramics, have decided to combine the latest communication and sales technologies with the oldest craft in the town of Grottaglie, which takes its name from this very tradition.

Our History
The production of items for both indoor and outdoor use has become very popular. Table lamps, chandeliers and bedside lamps are hand-shaped on the potter’s wheel and then finished using the fretwork technique. This technique involves carving the surface of the raw clay object whilst it is at an intermediate stage of drying, known as the ‘leather-hard’ stage: using a scalpel, the craftsman carves flowers, leaves, droplets and geometric patterns, creating small masterpieces of art that, when lit, produce magical plays of light. Authentic Made in Italy: Dolls and Knights, Pumi, and figurines are the items designed for wedding favours and home décor; plates, bowls, oil cruets, glasses, and serving dishes complete the range dedicated to the kitchen.
In Grottaglie, artisan workshops produce handmade ceramics for the interior and exterior decoration of our homes.
The town of Grottaglie is a member of the Association of Ceramic Cities and is located in Apulia, around twenty kilometres from Taranto, alongside 35 other Italian municipalities characterised by an ancient ceramic tradition and distinguished by the ‘Traditional Artistic Ceramics’ label. Most of the artisan workshops are located in the Ceramics Quarter, near the town’s historic centre. The oldest workshops are situated within limestone rock and still house the ancient kilns, which were also built by hand; large vats for settling the clay; and spacious vaulted chambers.
